Evan ROBBINS enlistd as  Pvt. CO H, 6th AL REGT Confederate States of America
(captured and paroled at Macon, GA at end of war)
Source1: 1907 CENSUS OF CONFEDERATE SOLDIERS IN ESCAMBIA CO., AL
Source2: Pension Application of 30 Nov. 1909 -
(Resided at Atmore, Escambia Co., AL at time of application)

Family tradition has it that Evan lost a leg or arm during the Civil War,and that he watched while the surgeon removed it.

The cover of his application for a pension says that Evan enlisted in May 1864 at Dolphin, Georgia in the Confederates States Army  in the 6th Alabama Reg., CompanyH., but affadavits from his step mother, Martha and her brother, William Bradley, states that William Bradley carried Evan to Greenville, AL where he enlisted as a Private in the 6thFlorida Regiment Company H.  He was captured at Macon, Georgia and paroled there at the end of the war, and went home about a month after the surrender. This information comesfrom his application for a CW pension,  from the Alabama Archives,Birmingham, AL.
He was living at Atmore, AL in Escambia County at the time of his application on 30 Nov. 1909, altho the application was filed in Covington County. This application specifically states that he was not wounded while in the war, but does say that he could no longerwork and make a living because of a sore leg. A physicians statement says he had "erysepticoc", a chronicinfection, of the leg, which was badly swollen.

Marriage Notes for EVAN ROBBINS and MARY MARTIN:
8 Oct 1999:
The story of Evan and Mary "Mollie" Jane Martin is a mystery that has not
been completely cleared up yet. The author posted a query on the Covington
County, AL genealogy discussion mail list on 23 Aug 1999, requesting that
anyone with more information on four of Evan's children, also any further
data on Evan's 2nd wife, Mary Jane Martin, to please contact her. Two
replies were received: one from Doris Annette Johns, a gggranddaughter of
Evan & first wife, Winnie Coon, who helped to fill in a lot of missing data
on her grandmother, Saphronia, plus some on the other three children, and
on Mollie Martin. It seems that Mollie gave birth to a daughter, Lena D., on
3 Nov. 1900, and Evan didn't believe the child belonged to him so he left
Mollie and later divorced her. No one knows just why he was convinced the
little girl was not his child, but several years later, when he was living with
his daughter, Saphronia and her family, he became ill and Mollie brought the
girl to see him and told him that she was his daughter, but he still wouldn't
believe her. Mollie and the girl were listed on the 1910 Covington county
census, living with her father, William Jasper Martin, Jr., and had the Robbins
surname, but Mollie was listed as a widow. By the 1920 census, she was still
living with her father, but went by the name of Mary J. Martin. No divorce
papers are available because the Andalusia courthouse burned in 1918 and
destroyed all the records, so it's unclear whether Mollie legally took her maiden
name back after the divorce or if she just decided to drop the married name of
Robbins because of her problems with Evan. However, the child, Lena, did carry
the surname of Robbins until her marriage to Counce Rigdon about 1920,
according to information from Mollies' granddaughter, Bobbie Inman, who lives
in Opp, AL. Bobbie is the daughter of Mollie's son, Nathan Martin, who Bobbie
says was the result of Mollie being raped
